EPI Book Recommendations: The Heart of a Leader

A monthly-ish column from our friends Jerry, Ron and Howard at Education Partnerships, Inc. (EPI) who work with GEAR UP principals. They will offer a short review of a book that will inspire, motivate, and/or challenge educators. This month, Jerry reviews The Heart of a Leader: Insights on the Art of Influence, by Ken Blanchard.

Best known for his overwhelming best seller The One Minute Manager, Ken Blanchard has assembled a collection of thoughts regarding leadership from his career as an educator. Presented in a very “readable” format of statements by famous leaders from Confucius to John Wooden and followed by a one page expository from Ken’s insights and experiences. This book causes the reader to reflect on the way they perceive the world and provides pragmatic guidance for those of us who are leaders of students, teachers, or families. Well worth the short, enjoyable and easy read of 189 pages.

Note: EPI has several copies of this book available; we would be glad to send a copy to the principal of any school in which there is a person who would like to read it.
